Premium Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is a speciality of Helm Wines and the Canberra
District is perfectly suited to growing this wonderful variety.
Helm Wines has been successfully making cabernet sauvignon and
cabernet blends since 1979 and has attracted numerous wine show
awards and favourable critic reviews. The Canberra District region has
similarities to Bordeaux and is influenced by evening easterly winds in
summer (known as Batemans breath) which ensure cool nights and
bring a hint of salt from the ocean (at Batemans Bay).

The Grapes

The 2018 vintage was one of the most unusual with very low winter rain, frost free spring, excellent fruit set and good rains up to December then very dry till harvest. The conditions provide a record crop set, slow ripening conditions due to the lack of rain, which meant harvest was late – mid of April. Quality did not suffer and resulted in a record high quality vintage. 2018 vintage for Cabernet sauvignon, was a standout out, and the wines show it – delicious perfectly balanced wines.

The Wine
The deep red hue is typical of Cabernet from the Canberra District, with a rich berry and spicy bouquet. An outstanding wine of soft tannins, rich dark fruit and cherry palate with balanced oak tannins. After cold soaking and 25% whole bunch fermentation, it is a selection of the best casks over two years in French oak.
