The Grapes
The season started with good winter rains which continued into spring, with mild temperatures preventing any late season frosts. Excellent flowering conditions meant a good crop set. Vine growth was rampant providing good foliage coverage for all varieties, preventing sunburn – especially for Riesling grapes. A very hot and dry summer aided ripening and reduced disease pressures. There were several heatwaves during the season although our regular evening sea breeze cooled things down considerably overnight. Harvest saw a return to our typical autumn conditions, cool nights and warm dry days, which are perfect for making premium cool climate wines.
Another very high quality season in the Canberra District, which makes four in a row and all very different due to the weather conditions.
The Wine
Aromatic floral and orange blossom aroma. Juicy ripe citrus and stonefruit flavours on the middle palate with a dry refreshing finish.
Serve with
Great with spicy Thai, Chinese or Indian flavours where the sweetness of the wine balances out the heat.
Cellar for
The balance of acid and sugar in this wine means it is perfect to drink and enjoy now.
If kept for longer than two years the wine will start to taste sweeter due to a drop in acidity.
